Aware of the problems experienced by researchers looking into the history of the Henley Company (particularly family history enquiries), I thought it would be useful to gather all the available archive listings in one place.

There are three main archive collections in the UK relating to the Company: The papers titled "HEN:" at the Science Museum Archive and Library at Wroughton; the collection of material at the Porthcurno Telegraph Museum which I rescued from the Henley Gravesend site about ten years ago; and some papers generated during my “Henley research period,” which are also at Porthcurno but are not indexed.

Whilst the Porthcurno collection is catalogued (on the database) with, in most cases, quite a lot of detail, it is not available on line, and it will be some time before this is available. The Henley archive at the Science Museum is not detailed in their on-line catalogue index but a printed hand-list is available at Wroughton*.

With the kind permission of the Porthcurno Telegraph Museum and the Science Museum, their complete archive index records are presented on this page.

My own research papers at PK will be sorted and indexed and will eventually be included into the main PK archive.

*2023 update: The Science Museum Dana Research Centre and Library now has the Henley collection listed in its online catalogue, with a downloadable PDF document of all the entries shown below. See the archive catalogue entry for further details.

The collection is in three boxes, and may be retrieved by special request from Wroughton and made available at the Dana Library, which is near the Science Museum main building in London.

Section 2: Loose Material

A large number of cuttings, photographs, pages from journals and trade literature concerning
the life of W.T. Henley and his company’s activities. Items are numbered (presumably by Savage);
the first numbered item is 62, although the last item in the file (Part 1) is 44.

N.B. I have used square brackets round dates where that date is the only one mentioned
on the document, although the document obviously originates from a later time.
